体坛英语资讯:Serbia, Japan and Brazil on top of fifth day of 2024 World Judo Champions

BUDAPEST, Sep. 1 -- Serbia, Japan and Brazil ruled on the fifth day of the 2024 World Judo Championships, with their competitors earning the gold medal in women's 70kg, 78kg and men's 90kg categories here on Thursday.

Serbia's junior European champion Nemanja Majdov took the gold medal in men's 90kg category, Slovenian Mihael Zgank took away silver and Donghan Gwak from South Korea and to Ushangi Margiani of Georgia won bronze medals.

In the women's 70kg category, Japanese Chizuru Arai, two-time Grand Slam winner in 2024, won the gold. Puerto Rico took the silver thanks to Maria Perez, while two bronze medals were awarded respectively to Colombian Yuri Alvear and Maria Bernabeu from Spain.

In the women's 78kg category, 2024 world champion Mayra Aguiar from Brazil won the gold. Japan's Mami Umeki came second while two bronze medals went to respectively to Kaliema Antomarchi from Cuba and Natalie Powell from Britain.

China's Yan Zi was sent packing in her first round of the women's 70kg while In women's 78kg, He Huizhen, was stopped in second round by Mami Umeki of Japan, and Zhang Kaili lost her first and only fight against British Powell.

In men's 90kg, Wang Wei got eliminated after his first fight against German David Tekic.
